A number of years ago, I was working on an economic development initiative in our community. Part of that was to help people who wanted to develop some kind of business idea. An interesting man came to the office wondering if he could get a business started making and selling buildings for model railroads. He also made wonderful model ships.
As part of the project, I photographed several of his ships. He did these from scratch, researching, making his plans, and building the whole thing. Although the business didn't get off the ground, I really value the things I learned from Les. I was glad to hear that later he got a job with a museum working on exhibits. Here are some of the ships that he made. Top: Caravel from Elizabethan times; Viking long ship and Canadian west coast troller.
